What is trading mentoring?

Why consider trading mentoring? Because there is no such thing as a 100% foolproof trading system, and learning by trial and error can be expensive. It can be to your advantage to partner with an experienced trading mentor or coach to help you as you learn and develop your approach, define your strategy and style, and manage the technical and psychological aspects of trading.

With a trading mentor you are able to take advantage of experienced guidance and support by receiving constructive insightful feedback. The objective is to guide you from strategy to entry to close of trade.  We’re here to help you become a better trader so you can go on to achieve your own ambitious goals.

In a way, working with a trading mentor is no different than the relationship between a coach and one of his team members: you can’t just read a book to be great at soccer, you need to practice and be trained and coached by someone who is knowledgeable and experienced. Practice makes perfect if you are practicing correct technique.  The same is true for trading.

Trading mentoring paves the way to better trading. You can always learn through a classroom environment with a broad-based and generic curriculum.  But that doesn’t take into account the specifics of your skillset, approach, technique and a host of other factors that all impact how successful you might be as a trader.

You can also use a trial-and-error approach, but in the long run it can be more efficient to work with a mentor than go it alone and “pay” for your mistakes within the context of live trading.

In addition, it can be helpful to have input from others in the trading community to function as your sounding board. You can’t keep your eyes on everything at all times. However, it is crucial to be able to sort out what is valuable information from the noise, and a trading coach or mentor does exactly that.

With a mentoring approach, there’s a resource to go to and someone to hold you accountable for your trades. Your mentor is able to bring you insights about strategies, and objectively spot what works and what does not work-- in effect to ’diagnose your problem’ whatever that might be. Then we work with you to develop solutions that take into account the nuances of your trading approach and style, to get you to a better and more effective process.

Your mentor learns your strengths and weaknesses from working with you, and is then able to improve your technique accordingly. One-on-one attention is the best way to accelerate your learning process and learn to practice correctly.

Having an experienced trader actually coach you based on your own personal risk aptitude, risk capital, and time available for trading can be an effective way to become proficient at trading.

Trading mentoring and coaching, can teach you how and when to adjust your strategy. Because there isn’t a manual for the market, it’s beneficial to have someone with experience walk you through the market on a situation-by-situation basis.

Trading requires you to move with the change, and have a flexible mindset -- whether you’re more technically inclined or fundamentally inclined. The market is not rigid, it is not a machine - so there is no one specific mathematic formula that will constantly get you the results you’re looking for.

Working with a trading mentor is very practical, because although you can learn theory through books, there is a huge difference between theory and practice.  By partnering with your mentor you’ll learn through experienced individuals who’ve been there and know the ropes.

Equally important, you’ll want to practice with someone who will help you develop and follow a detailed training plan; someone who will hand-hold you through the process until you feel comfortable to do it on your own.

You can apply the rules of a strategy with help from a mentor at first, and record your results and confirm that the strategy is working for you. If you follow a plan that you’ve developed in conjunction with your trading coach, and a community of traders, then you will exponentially accelerate your learning process.
